Here's How:
STEP 1
Gather Your Supplies
Gingerbread Cookie Dough or a Prebaked Kit: Gingerbread cookie dough for the adventurous bakers or a prebaked kit for those seeking a more straightforward start. Looking for a prebaked kit recommendation? Check out this list of the best kits of 2023.
Royal Icing (Homemade or Store-Bought): Royal icing acts as your edible cement, holding your sweet structure together. Use store-bought if you prefer or try making your own for an extra personal touch.
Assorted Candies, Gumdrops and Chocolates: Gumdrops, jellybeans and peppermint candies are some of the best options for decorating a gingerbread house. They are colorful, versatile and easily adhere to the icing.
A Sturdy Base (Wooden Board or Cardboard): A sturdy base, such as a wooden board or cardboard, provides the foundation for your creation.
Piping Bags and Tips: Piping bags and tips are handy tools to construct and embellish your house, add icicles or write messages in icing.
STEP 2
Build Your Gingerbread House
Assemble the House: Apply icing to the edges of your gingerbread walls and carefully piece them together. Resting the house against something sturdy, like a box, can be helpful while the icing sets.
Next Comes the Fun Part - Decorating: Encourage your family to get in touch with their creative side and let them put their own personal spin on their creation.
Remember: Anyone Can Win! This isn't about building the perfect gingerbread house. It's about creating sweet memories unique to you and your loved ones. We can't wait to see what your kids can do with their favorite candy and some holiday spirit.
